Anderson p for his dedication and leadership to the Orange County Sanitation District and the Groundwater Replenishment System Dedicated: April 2009 i . r r — I 1 Former Board Chairman James Ferryman's Overall Accomplishments: Began serving Orange County Sanitation District as a representative of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District since June 14, 1989, first as an alternate and active member of the Board of Directors Jim served as Chair of the Orange County Sanitation District Board of Directors from July 2006 through June 2008 and as Vice-Chair from July 2004 to July 2006 Jim Ferryman was a part of the OCSD Board of Directors taking an important step to adopt a new policy to expand the treatment of dry weather urban runoff from four million gallons to ten million gallons per day, improving water quality at local beaches and saving cities millions of dollars He provided leadership while working enthusiastically to secure federal funding for secondary treatment improvements and other District programs Under Jim's leadership, he oversaw the completion, and commissioning of the initial Groundwater Replenishment System, the world's largest water purification plant, which provides safe, reliable, high quality, and locally controlled drought proof water to residents in Orange County each year - Mr. Ferryman provided leadership to ensure the successful upgrade of OCSD's facilities to full secondary treatment to ensure the highest quality water is released into the ocean and for the Groundwater Replenishment System - In addition, with Mr. Ferryman's long-standing service to OCSD, Mr. Ferryman was also able to provide guidance to move OCSD and OCWD forward with the final expansion of the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) currently scheduled to be online in 2023. With the final increase to GWRS, OCSD will increase the current 130 million gallons of secondary treated effluent sent to OCWD to about 160 million gallons per day, increasing GWRS water production from 100 million gallons per day to about 130 million gallons per day Mr. Ferryman helped OCSD celebrate our 60rh Anniversary by attending our first State of the District event in 2014. Jim was instrumental in naming the OCSD Lift Station at our Fountain Valley facility "Steve Anderson Lift Station" after former City Council Member and Board Chairman Steve Anderson, to whom Jim served as Vice Chair. He attended the unveiling of the name along with other members of the OCSD Board of Directors. He also assisted in OCSD sponsoring legislation (AB 2022) with the Orange County Water District, and WateReuse, which allows Californians to taste-test highly purified recycled water and for water agencies to bottle their potable recycled water and distribute small amounts for educational purposes - Jim Ferryman was a part of helping OCSD successfully transfer 174 miles of local sewers serving parts of Tustin and the unincorporated areas north of Tustin to the East Orange County Water District, allowing OCSD to focus on regional wastewater collection, treatment and recycling. In 2018, Mr. Ferryman helped the GWRS celebrate it's 1 0-year Anniversary by holding an Open House at the Orange County Water District and helping the GWRS set a Guinness World RecordsTM title for the most wastewater recycled to drinking water in 24 hours.
