Proposed Policy Statement
• MD strives to be energy independent by minimizing
energy utilization and maximizing useful energy
recovery from the sewage it receives .
• Energy independence supports OCSD's primary mission
by providing resilient, reliable operations at the lowest
cost and environmental impact.
• Once OCSD's energy needs are met, excess renewable
energy will be sold to support the electrical grid, natural
gas distribution or as transportation fuel .
Research/Partnering Focus
• OCSD is focused on increasing Bio Gas production to
fully utilize Central Generation Capacity to meet
electricity and heat demand ( no imported energy,
fully utilize 18 MW generation capacity) .
• Sell excess energy to private markets :
• Electrical Grid
• Gas exports
• Transportation Fuels ( Bio Diesel, Compressed Gas,
Hydrogen)
• Maintain our carbon neutral exemption from the Cap
and Trade System .
