HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1966-06-276-27-66 DISThICTSI’IOS.5 AND 6 MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING •June 27th2 l966 -10:00 a.m Newport Beach City ~a11 Newport Beach,California Pursuant to adjournment of the regular meeting held June 8,1966, the Boar~of Directors of County Sanitation Districts Nos.5 and 6, of Orange County,California,met in an adjourned regular meeting at the above hour and date. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.The roll was called and the Secretary reported a quorum present for each District’s Board. •DISTRICT NO.5 DIRECTORS PRESENT:Lindsley Parsons (Chairman),Paul J.Gruber, and Alton E.Allen DIRECTORS ABSENT:None DISTRICT NO.6 DIRECTORS PRESENT:A.H.Meyers (Chairman),Paul J.Gruber, and Alton E.Allen DIRECTORS ABSENT:None Others present:Don Southworth,Donald Simpson,Gordon Jones, Ellis N.Porter,Paul G.Brown,and Fred A. Harper,Secretary ********* DISTRICTS 5 AND 6 The Chair recognized Mr.Don Report of the Southworth of Southworth and engineers Stevens,District No.6 engineers,who reviewed a written report from said engineers dated June 21,1966. The engineers recommended that the original scope of reconstruction of the Rocky Point Pumping Station be reduced by continuing to use the existing equipment as long as possible,and by constructing only those items which are essential to the efficient operation of the station.The decision of the Directors concerning the modernizing of the existing station,construction of a new station at some other location,or construction of a parallel force main, can be delayed until such time as the present equipment can no longer handle the sewage requirements. ___________________ That the report of Southworth and Stevens,Inc.,dated June 21, 1966,relating to reconstruction of the Rocky Point Pumping Station be received and ordered filed;and, C DISTRICTS 5 AND 6 Ordering eng~neers to proceed with work as outlined Moved,seconded and duly carried: FURTHER MOVED:That the reconstruction work proposed in said report is hereby approved and authorized. Moved,seconded and duly carried: That this meeting of the Board of Directors of County Sanitation District No.6 be adjourned to 6:30 p.m.,July 13,1966,at Treatment Plant No.2,22212 Brookhurst Avenue,Huntington Beach,California. The Chairman then declared the meeting so adjourned at 10:27 a.m.,June 27,1966. DISTRICT 5 The Districtts engineers and staff ~~ort of staff and reported on the status of Contract engineers re:Con No.5-12 (Coast Highway Trunk Sewer tract No.5-12 and Bay Bridge Pumping Station). The engineers anticipate completion of the work by the end of the month except for removal of the District’s old force main from the Coast Highway Bridge. The staff recommends that the District’s existing Bay Bridge Pumping Station and force main be left intact through the summer season in the event the new pumping station should re quire modifications or adjustments which could be accomplished only if the station were shut down.The Directors were advised that the Contractor is willing to enter into a Closeout Agreement upon completion of Contract No.5-12.This agreement will provide that the District withhold $1,000 from the con tract,and that the Contractor will remove the District’s old force main after October 1,1966.After removal of the force main,the funds withheld will be released. Tentative change orders for adjustment of quantities and extension of time were reviewed for the Directors’information. The change orders and the Closeout Agreement will be con sidered by-the Board at its July 13th meeting. A temporary method of sewering 57 homes in Tract #5018 was accomplished by the installation of a pump station which pumps into District No.5 facilities;however,no arrangements or agreements were made to handle the disposal of sewage in this manner.This portion of the City is within the Irvine Ranch Water District,which is legally authorized to collect and dispose of sewage,but at the present time they do not have sewage disposal facilities. The staff advised that a meeting is planned for June 30th with representatives of the Irvine Ranch Water District and the City of Newport Beach,to study possible permanent methods for sewering this area.The Directors will be advised of the results of this meeting. 6-27-66 5&6 DISTRICT 6 Adjournment 0 0 DISTRICT 5 ~port of the staff re: Sewering the area known as Tract #5018,on a permanent basis The staff described for the Directors a developed area •northerly of District No.5, which is in the City of Newport Beach. -2- L 6-27-66 5&6 DISTRICT 5 Because of the size and scope Dedication of Coast of the Coast Highway Trunk Highway Trunk Sewer Sewer and Bay Bridge Pumping and Bay Bridge Pump Station project,and its value ing Station to the residents of the District, C-’,the staff was directed to arrange for a dedication ceremony at the site of the facility. The staff was further directed to advise the public officials of the City of Newport Beach,Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce,the local newspapers,and other interested parties of the event.(To be held at Ll~:00 p.m.,July 1LI.th).
