DISTRICTS 5 AND 6 The Chair recognized Mr.Don
Report of the Southworth of Southworth and
engineers Stevens,District No.6
engineers,who reviewed a
written report from said engineers dated June 21,1966.
The engineers recommended that the original scope of
reconstruction of the Rocky Point Pumping Station be
reduced by continuing to use the existing equipment as long
as possible, and by constructing only those items which are
essential to the efficient operation of the station. The
decision of the Directors concerning the modernizing of the
existing station, construction of a new station at some
other location,or construction of a parallel force main,
can be delayed until such time as the present equipment
can no longer handle the sewage requirements.

DISTRICT 5 The Districtts engineers and staff
~~ort of staff and reported on the status of Contract
engineers re:Con No.5-12 (Coast Highway Trunk Sewer
tract No.5-12 and Bay Bridge Pumping Station).
The engineers anticipate completion
of the work by the end of the month except for removal of the
District’s old force main from the Coast Highway Bridge.
The staff recommends that the District’s existing Bay Bridge
Pumping Station and force main be left intact through the
summer season in the event the new pumping station should re
quire modifications or adjustments which could be accomplished
only if the station were shut down. The Directors were advised
that the Contractor is willing to enter into a Closeout
Agreement upon completion of Contract No.5-12.This agreement
will provide that the District withhold $1,000 from the con
tract, and that the Contractor will remove the District’s old
force main after October 1,1966.After removal of the force
main, the funds withheld will be released.
Tentative change orders for adjustment of quantities and
extension of time were reviewed for the Directors’information.
The change orders and the Closeout Agreement will be con
sidered by-the Board at its July 13th meeting.
A temporary method of sewering 57 homes in Tract #5018 was
accomplished by the installation of a pump station which
pumps into District No.5 facilities;however,no arrangements
or agreements were made to handle the disposal of sewage in
this manner. This portion of the City is within the Irvine
Ranch Water District, which is legally authorized to collect
and dispose of sewage, but at the present time they do not
have sewage disposal facilities.
The staff advised that a meeting is planned for June 30th
with representatives of the Irvine Ranch Water District and
the City of Newport Beach,to study possible permanent
methods for sewering this area. The Directors will be
advised of the results of this meeting.
